A Magical Photography Session with Horse and Rider on the Beach

Kim’s dream photography session with her horse involved a beautiful flowing gown, the beach, and of course her favorite boy named Obi. I’m a lucky equine photographer, in that I’ve had the pleasure to work with Kim and her horses on multiple occasions. When I first met Kim it was to photograph her with her horse Hannah at the Florida Agricultural Museum in Flagler County, Florida. I learned when preparing for that session that Kim is a planner! I’m a photographer that can run with a planner and soon Kim and I were talking about all of her dreams and her plans for her partnership with Hannah. Her portrait session at the Florida Agricultural Museum was dreamy and together we created a collection of images that went into an authentic reclaimed wood keepsake box and framed portraits for her office walls. We could never have guessed how precious those images would become for Kim until she lost Hannah to colic less than a year later.

I have no doubt that when Hannah died, Kim felt she would never find another horse as special as she was. Little did she know, that this gorgeous gelding named Obi, was looking for his forever person. As Kim and Obi started to develop their relationship she also dreamed of the day they would ride the beach together for the first time. I photographed Kim and Obi over the holidays and we created adorable Christmas cards to celebrate their budding relationship. At the same time we got serious about setting a date for the dream beach equine photography session!

The day of the dream, horses on the beach, photography session finally came and we were ready! Kim had practiced riding Obi with a long flowing gown and she had taken trips to the beach with Obi to desensitize him to the crashing waves. We planned her glamour makeover with Kira at Onsite Muse, her gown was fitted, and assistants had been secured. I’m happy to say that Kim and Obi were amazing and I’m sitting here right now designing her beautiful Prestige Album and getting a little teary-eyed at the memories that she has made with the second most special horse to share her life and that she chose to share those moments with Fast Horse Photography.
