An Honest Gaze
Equine Art From a Horse’s Point of View
Have you ever noticed your horse gazing off into the distance and wondered “What is he thinking?” Maybe there was a distracting noise, or movement off in the distance?
It is pretty easy to tell if they are afraid or stressed when you see the white in their eyes and hear a loud snort. But, when they lock their eyes on something, imagine if we knew their thoughts.
We work so hard to bond with our horses and to know their likes and dislikes. But man, it would be so much easier if we actually knew the ideas rolling around in their head. “I’d love to gallop up that hill.” More likely, “Look at that field of grass!”
When I shot this equine image, we were in an open field surrounded by mountains mostly hidden by smoke. The horse was actually watching elk barrel down from the mountain. What a commotion they made.
It was twilight and there were wildfires in the distance. We watched helicopters carrying water. The fire created a smokey haze which made for a perfect white background.
The horse just took a moment to pop his head up and look to where the noise was coming from. Sounds he heard over and over again I’m sure, but just a little hard to see.
This horse is named Bozeman and I actually rode him during an equestrian photography session in Wyoming. I was supposed to ride another horse who ended up being lame. They pulled this guy out for me and I was like… “Yes, I will happily ride this unicorn”! I love the kind expression in his eyes. Drawing me into his world. His gaze. His presence.
I actually have this equine wall art huge in my home. I have it in my living room right over the TV. Like 40x40 I think, printed on metal. It’s big! Making passers-by stop and pause. Experienced equestrians and even people not exposed to horses stopping to ponder “What is he looking at?”
Equine art collectibles are more than just beautiful pieces gracing the walls in our home or office. They provide an opportunity to inspire and ponder. For us to stop and take a moment from the hustle and bustle of life to just wonder. Maybe just to get outside more. Or to travel more. To explore the great outdoors and see a herd of elk for yourself.
Equestrian home decor bringing the outside, inside. Helping you remember the “why” of life. Keeping the peace of nature at the forefront of your mind. Reminding you of the relationship you have with any of your four-leggeds is like a healing salve to your spirit.
